The Laigh Kirk contains the Dunlop aisle of 1641 and has some fine stained glass.
James Hamilton, 1st Viscount Claneboye although most of his achievements were in Ireland and much later returned to Dunlop where his father Hans had been the first Protestant minister of Dunlop.
In 1641, when in his eighties, he returned to his Scottish home town and built a mausoleum to his parents in the churchyard where his father had been minister.
He erected a school attached to the mausoleum which he named Clandeboye School.
