Dundrennan Abbey is said to have been where Mary, Queen of Scots fled after the defeat at Langside and spent her last night here in Scotland.

The Cistercian Abbey dates from 1142 and although much of the buildings is in ruins, the Chapter House and parts of the 13th century transepts of the church still remain.
There are some incised slabs, the Cellarer’s Monument dated 1480 and a fine 13th century monument to an abbot.
