URPoint Details

Dundee (Dun Deagh)

‘The City of Discovery’, which refers both to the many attractions here and literally, the home of RRS Discovery, the ship used by Captain Scott on his Antarctic expeditions.

Dundee is situated on the Firth of Tay, overlooking the coast of Fife and linked to it by the Tay Bridge, built between 1883 and 1888.

In 1190 Dundee became a Royal Burgh and later Montrose stormed the city in 1545 and General Monk captured it in 1651 and there are associations with both the Old and the Young Pretenders in 1715 and 1745 respectively.

William Wallace was educated at the Grammar School and Hector Boece the historian was born here in 1465.
