Dun Aonghasa, (HI) - Inishmore

Exhibitions; toilets; disabled toilet; limited parking for bicycles only. Disabled visitors have access to Visitor Centre. Please note: due to much of the site being exposed, protective clothing should be worn especially shoes suitable for uneven terrain.

Spectacularly perched on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this prehistoric stone fort is the largest on the Aran Islands.
Enclosed by three massive dry-stone walls and a ‘cheavaux-de-frise’ consisting of tall blocks of limestone set vertically into the ground to deter attackers.

The fort is about 900m from the Visitor Centre and is approached over rising ground.
