A pretty village incorporated in Edinburgh with Roman earthworks and prehistoric remains.
The church has iron ‘jougs’ a collar for chaining criminals to the wall and last used in 1850.
The ‘Sheeps Heid Inn’ is the oldest licensed premises in Scotland.
There are some interesting houses in the area including Duddingston House built by Sir William Chambers in 1768 and the charming Peffermill House dates from 1636 and Prestonfield House designed by Sir William Bruce in 1687.
