URPoint Details

Disabled access; tearoom; picnic area; gift shop; adventure playground area.

A unique example of a late 17th century castle in pink sandstone, built on the site of an earlier Douglas stronghold and set in parkland.

A magnificent building owned by the Duke of Buccleuch standing in a lovely wooded setting in Nithsdale dating from between 1676 and 1689 and designed by Sir William Bruce.

First occupied by Prince Charles Edward in 1745, and the First Duke of Queensberry for whom it was built only spent one night in it, has some superb woodwork.

To the southeast in the park, is the ruined Tibber’s Castle destroyed by Bruce in 1311.
