URPoint Details

Car park; toilets; picnic area and tearoom.

The castle is a family home and in the Irvine Room you will see some great memorabilia.

The hauntingly beautiful Drum Castle with its great square tower is one of the three oldest tower houses in Scotland and is approached by an avenue of trees all clearly named.

It was the work of Richard Cementarius, first Provost of Aberdeen and King's Master mason, in the late 13th century. Additions were made in 1619 and during the reign of Queen Victoria making this a very fine Jacobean mansion house.

In 1323 King Robert the Bruce gave a charter of the Royal Forest of Drum to his faithful armour-bearer, William de Irwyn.

The house contains a collection of portraits and good Georgian furniture, much of it from the 18th century.

In the grounds is the 100 year Old Wood of Drum - a natural oakwood - coniferous plantation and deciduous woodland, arboretum, garden of Historic Roses and woodland walks.
