The Manor House was built in 1280 and is one of England's oldest houses. It is extremely well preserved and is, today, virtually the same as it was in the days of its earliest owners. The original roof frames have survived and are an outstanding feature of the property.
It has also been established that the building sits on Saxon foundations, suggesting that an even earlier structure occupied the site.
