A village with a 17th century church and 17th and 18th century houses round a green.
The village is claimed to be one of the most beautiful in Scotland.
To the west is Archerfield House which took the place of the castle as a residence and has a 16th century circular dovecote which has survived.
The surroundings of the house are associated with R L Stevenson’s ‘Pavilion on the Links’.
