The road is hilly with excellent scenery and grand views on the south side of the wooded valley of the Rheidol. In its setting of rocks, wooded gorges and waterfalls is one of the most popular beauty spots in the country.
There are three bridges, one immediately above the other and all span the ravine of the Mynach near the point where the stream joins the Rheidol.
The oldest and lowest bridge with the reputation as the ‘Evil One’ is supposedly built in the 12th century by the monks of Strata Florida Abbey.
The middle bridge dates from 1753 and the iron bridge which carries the main road dates from 1901.
