URPoint Details
The town with its cobbled main street, is a little gem with a delightful stone fountain on a corner in memory of the geologist Adam Sedgwick born here in 1785. The many farms and cottages around here are whitewashed and hedges alternate with stone walls.
One of the smallest of the dales and is delightful. The little River Dee tumbles down the dale between trees and ferns, fed by many tributary becks.
Here the countryside looks like the Lake District where dark grey rock looms over the valley west of town.
