The long and picturesque wooded valley of the River Dee famous for its salmon is close to many wonderful historic places to visit including Crathes Castle, the famous Royal Castle at Balmoral and the charming little royal church at Crathie.
The valley which has been granted the proud title of ‘Royal Deeside' where lofty hills like the Hill of Cat rising to 2,433ft and Mount Battock at 2,555ft and not forgetting the famous range of the Cairngorms.
Some of the other mountains worth a visit include Ben Macdhui at 4,296ft, the Devil's Point at 3,303ft and Cairn Tour rising to 4,241ft.
In the surrounding area you will find some of the loveliest towns and villages including Banchory, Ballater and Braemar with its fantastic Highland Games.
The actual source of the Dee, known as the Wells of Dee are situated up near the summit of Braeriach which stands at 4,248ft.
