URPoint Details
An extensive upland district, bleak and wild, now belonging to the National Park, with rocky tors and the highest point is High Willhays rising to 2,039ft and Yes Tor to 2,028ft.
Two main roads cross the area, intersecting at Two Bridges and reaching heights of over 1,000ft in places.
The wooded country on the outskirts of the Moor along the river valleys of the Teign, the Dart and the Tavy is quite spectacular.
Prehistoric remains and ancient crosses are frequently discovered, while the stone circles near Gidleigh and the enclosure of Grimspound are notable.
There are bogs and near the lonely Dart Head is Cranmore Pool where a letter box was erected in 1854 and a visitor’s book was started in 1895
Two Bridges is a meeting place of roads in the heart of Dartmoor at a height of 1,125ft. Wistmans’s Wood composed of dwarf oaks lies to the north near the West Dart River.
