URPoint Details
Darrington is a small village with history dating back to the time of Edward the Confessor.
The last Anglo Saxon owners of Darrington were named Jordan, Baret and Alsi. After the Norman conquest it fell to the ownership of Ilbert de Lacy, a favourite of William the Conqueror
The 13th century parish Church of St Luke and All Saints is nothing today like it was in the 13th century. It has been sadly neglected and even wall painting whitewashed over and effigies have been destroyed. It has however, an unusual arcaded gallery between the vaulted north chapel and aisle. There are carved bench ends and stalls with misericords and some 14th century effigies.
