The town sitting on the banks of Ken Water was once known as St Johns Town of Dalry.
St Johns Stone is the name given to an ancient block in the street.
Lochinvar Lake is to the northeast of the town with the slight remains of an island castle, the home of the ムYoung Lochinvar of the famous ballad.
The Water of Ken encircles the churchyard in which a Covenanters Stone can be seen.
Northeast of Dalry on the road to Carsphairn along the west bank of the Water of Ken, is Earlston Linn, where the Ken merges with the Polharrow Burn.
