Culbin Forest, (FE), off A96. Open all year daily; picnic areas; car park.
Acquired by the Forestry Commission between 1922 and 1931, and designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1973. Culbin Forest contains the highest sand dune system in Britain, over 550 different species of flowering plants and more than 130 species of lichen.
The open spaces, conifers and broadleaved trees are home to roe deer, badgers, red squirrels, wildcats, pine martins and otters.
Fort George, (HES), 10m W of Nairn, 11m NE of Inverness off A96. Open all year. Last tickets sold 45 minutes before closing. Car park; toilets; exhibitions; visitor centre; restaurant; shop and picnic area.
Disabled car park about 200 yards from the entrance to the Fort, access is across level ground. All areas are accessible, the battlements have six sloped grass and concrete ramps at a 20 degree slope. All audio buttons in the barrack rooms are accessible and there is normally a custodian on duty in the Grand Magazine and barrack room to assist in any way. There are small gardens with seat to the north and south of the Principal Bridge.
