The prosperous town of Shipden situated seaward of Cromer slowly slipped into the sea in the late 14th century.
A large rock, several hundred yards out to sea from the pier can sometimes be seen at low tides is known as the Church Rock, the remains of the church of St Peter.
Beacon Hill, 1 mile N has over 70 acres of iron workings dating from Saxon times.
