Home of the Croft family since Domesday, (with a break of 170 years from 1750). The walls and corner towers date from the 14th and 15th centuries, while the interior is mainly 18th century, when the fine Georgian-Gothic staircase and plasterwork ceilings were added.
There is fine furniture, wonderful pictures and books displayed in the rooms open to the public.

A splendid avenue of 350 year old Spanish chestnut trees runs through the park, and an Iron Age fort (Croft Ambrey) may be reached by footpath (an uphill walk of approx 40 mins).
A great park on south-facing slope with 17th century formal avenues. A large area within the late 18th century ha-ha is grazed or mown, and access is via the 'Picturesque' Gothick gateway near which, in season, is a spectacular drift of cyclamen.
