URPoint Details
The Crinan Canal runs from little Loch Crinan to Ardrishaig, and joining Loch Fyne to the Sound of Jura and cutting out the long passage round Knapdale and Kintyre.
The canal was constructed between 1793 and 1800 to carry ships from Loch Fyne to the Atlantic without rounding Kintyre.
The 14.5km stretch of water with 15 locks is now mainly used by pleasure craft.
The towpath has easy walks with magnificent views to the Isles.
