URPoint Details
Almost 1000 feet above sea level one of Derbyshire's best known landmarks dominates the skyline.
A memorial to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, the grounds and tower are open to visitors. From the gallery at the top of the tower it is said that on a clear day there are views into eight counties, perhaps as far away as 70 miles. The site was occupied by two previous towers provided to enable ordinary people to see places that they could only dream of visiting.
The present tower was erected in 1923 and there is car parking, refreshment facilities and a Regimental memorabilia shop.
