The Order of the Knights Templar or ‘warrior monks’ was founded in 1118 to protect pilgrims travelling to the Holy Land.

Cressing Estate was given to the Knights Templar by Queen Matilda in 1137 and the buildings date from 1200 to 1700. There are two magnificent barns, The Barley barn dating from 1200 and the Wheat barn which dates from 1250 and is 140ft long.
