Set in magnificent wooded countryside the town offers many fine walks and Tilgate offers three lakes for fishing, sailing and rowing.

In the centre of Queen’s Square is an unusual 25ft clock-tower and its theme is the annual London to Brighton veteran car run which passes through the town. When the hour of the clock is struck, models of old cars emerge on all four faces of the tower, and circles to the theme music of the film Genevieve, which was based on the car run.
