The hamlet in the heart of the Lammermuir Hills is set beside the Whiteadder Water and has probably one of the best Border Pele towers.
The arms of James IV once in the old church are now set on the inner of the present church.
The narrow and hilly road leading northwest towards Gifford crosses ‘The Hungry Snout’ and reaches well over 1,000ft with Spartleton Edge rising to the east.
A right fork from this road give access under the slopes of Clints Dod rising to 1,307ft a good vantage point to the village of Garvald.
