The centre of the weaving industry some of the old buildings date back to the days of greater prosperity. St Dunstan dates from the 15th century and is known as the cathedral of the weald.
Cranbrook school was founded in 1574 and a royal charter was granted by Elizabeth I who also laid the foundation stone of school house which is now the headmaster's residence.
Glassenbury Park west of Cranbrook is a moated house mainly dating from the 15th century. Only the gardens are open at stated times, there is a very fine avenue of lime trees and at one end lies Napoleon's horse that he rode at the battle of Waterloo.
Union Mill is a three storey windmill build in 1816 and stands 72 feet high, is the second highest in England. It is kept in full working order with all its gear intact.
