Market Place, Olney MK46 4AJ

URPoint Details

Open Tuesday to Saturday, please ring for opening details and admission charges. Unsuitable for wheelchair and mobility scooter users unless accompanied, some paths in both gardens are very narrow and others have high, uneven concrete surfaces and sharp right-angle turning points. The Shop, Courtyard and Viper Barn are accessible by wheelchair and mobility scooter user.

An important feature of the Georgian home of the 18th century poet, William Cowper, is the tiny summerhouse in the pleasant garden, which Cowper called his 'verse manufactory'. "Orchard Side now contains the personal belongings of the poet and those of his ex-slave trader curate friend, Rev. John Newton (author of Amazing Grace). There is also a Costume gallery and items of local interest, as well as an internationally important bobbin lace collection, lacemaking being the local cottage industry of Cowper's day.
