Cowes and East Cowes separated by the river Medina and it is at Cowes the home of British yachting and the headquarters for the Royal Yacht Squadron. The squadron operates from Cowes Castle, which was built by Henry VIII. Outside are 22 brass guns, ready to fire Royal Salutes and start the races.
The ruined castle was built by John Nash.
