Corstophine hill rises to 350ft on which is the viewpoint of the ‘Rest and Be Thankful’ associated with R L Stevenson’s Kidnapped. On the summit of the hill stands Clermiston Tower, commemorating Sir Walter Scott.
The church dates from the 15th century, became a Collegiate Church in 1429 and is noted for some fine memorials, separate gabled roof and the coats of arms on the exterior.
To the east of the hill is the early 17th century Craigcrook Castle with later additions and nearby is Ravelston House with its delightful gardens.
Murrayfield, the home of Scottish Rugby is only 2 miles away and near it is Roseburn House of 1562 with some later additions in which it is said that Cromwell stayed in 1650.
