A meeting place of two roads from Dingwall and the River Blackwater here forms two channels. he church stands on an island formed by the branches of the river. In the vicinity once stood Kilchrist Church which in 1603 while the Mackenzies were worshipping it is reputed that the Macdonalds whose piper marched around the church while others set it alight (we of the Clan Macdonalds wouldn’t do that!)
