Situated on the Water of Leith, Colinton has some interesting buildings of interest including Merchiston School and Redford Barracks.
The old Merchiston Castle dates from the 16th century, where John Napier the inventor of logarithms was born in 1550.
To the south is Bonaly Tower former home of the well known judge, Lord Cockburn.
Colinton Dell is a pretty wooded valley on the Water of Leith.
