URPoint Details
Once a prosperous wool town is now considered by the locals to be a village. There are some wonderful buildings including of course Paycocke's, the Woolpack Hotel and many others.
The village is now a major antique centre with fine medieval timber-framed buildings.
The church of St Peter and Vincula has been rebuilt. There are numerous Paycocke brasses and one outstanding brass is to Mary Honywood dated 1620 who left 367 surviving descendants.
12th century St Nicholas's chapel beside the mill stream is all that remains of a Cistercian abbey.
