The little village lies sheltered by surrounding hills and dates from Roman times The little village lies sheltered by surrounding hills and dates from Roman times and known then as Combretonium. Many archaeological finds have been made in the Baylham House area, the original site of the town.
The village is unspoilt and there are beautiful Suffolk pink timber-framed 15th century houses, the post office dates from 1500 and the vicarage from the 18th century.
