URPoint Details

CLAVERLEY (Old English meaning ‘a clearing where clover grows’)

A typical village of the famous black and white cottages have raised foundations to ‘keep their feet dry’ in case of heavy rain. Their studded doors and diamond-leaded windows mingle with buildings made of weathered brick, red sandstone and ancient timber.

The parish church of All Saints was built by the Norman knight Roger de Montgomery and there are many fine murals depicting knights and battles.
Built 28 years after the Norman Conquest on the site of a Saxon church, which in turn stood on pre-Christian foundations.

Ludstone Hall an early Jacobean manor house stands on the site of an early monastery and is surrounded by a moat.
