URPoint Details
About two miles north on the River Cathcart are the remains of Cathcart Castle partly demolished in the 15th century and later replaced by Cathcart House.
The ruined castle was associated with Mary, Queen of Scots who is said to have watched the battle of Langside in 1568 from the so-called ‘Queen Mary’s Window’.
After being defeated in battle she fled to Dundrennan and eventually left Scotland.
