URPoint Details
The name derives from clach (stone) and mannan (glove) and near the Old Tolbooth is the iron-bound Mannan Stone.
It is said that Robert Bruce left a glove here and that is how the town got its name.
The town climbs from the banks of the Black Devon river up a steep hill crowned by a 79ft tower, built by Robert Bruce in the 14th century.
