URPoint Details
This picturesque single arch bridge was built in 1792 and links the mainland to the Isle of Seil (thought often to be the only bridge to cross the Atlantic).
The waters are actually those of the narrow Seil Sound, which joins the Firth of Lorne to Outer Loch Melfort, but they can claim to be an arm of the Atlantic.
To the south of Scarba is the Gulf of Corryvracken with its treacherous tide-race, the noise of which can be heard miles away.
The island of Scarba reaches almost 1,500ft and is noted for its deer.
To the south of Clachan Bridge on the mainland and close to Seil Sound is the ancient seat of Armaddy Castle overlooking the bay.
