Spectacularly crowning a crag above the wooded Teifi Gorge, Cilgerran is one of the most picturesque castles in Wales. Steep drops protect it on two sides, while a mighty half-circuit of 13th century fortifications defends its southern approach, dominated by two great round towers, ingeniously designed triumphs of the fortress builder's art.
Set in an attractive village, Cilgerran's romantic ruins have inspired many landscape artists. The great Turner painted them again and again.
