Church Langton - Church of St. Peter

Church Lane, Church Langton LE16 7SX

URPoint Details

The tower of St. Peter’s Church dominates the surrounding countryside. It was here in September 1759 that Handel's `Messiah' was first performed in a Parish Church. This was part of one of the great music festivals organised by the Rector, the Rev. William Hanbury. His Rectory was the handsome symmetrical red brick house next to the Church.
