A pleasant Victorian village with magnificent views over the Chess valley with some houses of interest, the Architect C F A Voysey designed and built his own home The Orchard in Shire Lane.
Christ Church situated by the great common was built of flint in 1870 by George Street. The spire is low shingled, and inside there is a triple traceried opening connecting the chancel with the south chapel.
