URPoint Details
Houses of rustic brick and black-and-white cottages dot the village which sits near the Welsh border. The spacious Church of St Michael with its nave formerly part of a 13th century Augustinian priory. Nearby is a timber-framed school of 1675 and from the churchyard you can see the 17th century Chirbury Hall.
The Herbert Arms has a colourful heraldic sign paying tribute to Lord Herbert, the Shropshire born writer and soldier who, in 1644, surrendered nearby Montgomery Castle to Cromwell’s troops in the Civil War.
Away to the east rises Corndon Hill to 1,684ft.
To the southeast is Marrington Hall an Eizabethan half-timbered building. The half-timbered school dates from 1675.
