A superbly situated hilltop market town is the highest in Oxfordshire and affords spectacular views across the surrounding countryside.
Many elegant merchant's houses reflect the town's former importance in the wool trade and the chimney of Bliss Tweed bears testimony to its significance as a textile centre in the 18th century.
'The Crown', and the 'White Hart' were once coaching inns and date back to the 18th century. The White Hart in the High St still has some fine pieces of period furniture. 'The Fox' has a 16th century fireplace.
