A range of chalk hills, wooded in the west and mainly bare in the east near Ivinghoe in Bedfordshire, extending in an arc from Goring in the Thames Valley to a point near Hitchin in Hertfordshire.
The highest point is the 852ft Coombe Hill above Wendover in Buckinghamshire
