A handful of cottages make up the village near the River Till with remains from the prehistoric Ross Castle, a double-ramparted earthwork.
The church is Norman and Decorated in style and the magnificent tomb of Sir Ralph Grey and his wife is outstanding.
The castle is 14th century and later and the well-known Toad Stone is in the park along with the pure white cattle.
In the park stands the ruined bastle tower of Hebburn.

Chillingham Wild Cattle
Before the dawn of history, wild cattle roamed the forests of Britain. These are the sole survivors, pure bred and uncrossed with domestic cattle, cared for at Chillingham on land untouched by man or machinery for over 700 years.
