URPoint Details
A small village, of dark yellow Ham stone and dark thatch, sits in a richly fertile vale that slopes gently down to the sea. There are scattered farm buildings, cottages of yellow stone and a delightful parish church.
The church mainly 15th century contains a remarkable mother-of-pearl cross formerly carried by two monks in processions in and around Jerusalem and handed to the Vicar the Rev. Dr W D Omand in 1962 for safekeeping. There is a fine Purbeck marble effigy to one of the Arundel family dated about 1515. The little building just north of the church is a Roman Catholic mortuary chapel.
About half a mile north of the church and beside the early 19th century manor-house is an extraordinary ornate Roman Catholic church dating from 1870.
