URPoint Details
Open RAF open days only.
The Gilbertine Priory was founded in 1154 and there are tales of a nun who was walled up and whose ghost may still be seen. The surviving remains of the Priory and House are well worth a visit. Within the grounds of the RAF base is the "Priory" once the home of a mixed community for the nuns and monks of England's only Gilbertine religious order. Worthy of note are the 13th and 15th century architecture and work by Issac Ware and James Wyatt.
