URPoint Details
Chetwode lies between Buckingham and Bicester and was once the site of an Augustinian Priory that was founded in 1245.
The manor house is a fine mansion of the Jacobean period.
The Church of St Mary and St Nicholas is a remote church lost in deep lanes. The chancel is from the former Augustinian priory, the south window has some of the earliest known stained glass, showing the royal arms of Henry III. It also has a superb lancet east window and other 13th and 14th century work. Of note are the hatchments, the squire's pew with a fire-place and an unusual painted triptych of 1696.
