Wheelchair friendly; slight slopes all manageable.
Set in spacious grounds the zoo was founded in 1931 by Reginald Stuart Goddard in the grounds of Burnt Stub Manor.
The original manor was burnt by Cromwellian troops in 1648 and rebuilt after the Restoration, it was given the name of Burnt Stub due to being rebuilt from the burnt out structure.
Again in 1919 it was severely damaged by fire and was restored. Further damage was done during the Second World War and again it was restored.
Among the attractions is a pet's corner including domestic animals. The zoo also has a model village designed to represent a typical rural community.
