Eleanor Cross, built in 1291 is one of the three surviving resting places when Queen Eleanor's coffin was carried to Westminster for burial in the Abbey.
The town is also famous for the Temple Bar originally built in London in 1672 was dismantled and is now in Theobalds Park.
St Mary’s Church built in the 15th century has an embattled west tower of ashlar stone, and a south-east stair turret.
