URPoint Details
The Church of St Michael is a 19th century restoration of a 15th century building sits above the River Chess and reflects the centuries in its character. With a stair-turreted west tower, Norman font, Victorian hammerbeam roofs, and 15th and 16th century brasses, including one of a lady holding her heart. Stained glass in the Bedford Chapel is by Kempe. Assembled in the chapel - part of the Bedford Estate and rarely open - are very impressive monuments to the dukes of Bedford, some flamboyantly expressive, and probably unequalled elsewhere. The North aisle has been the burial place of the Russells, Dukes of Bedford since 1556.
