URPoint Details
Trains arrived in Chelmsford in 1845 when the magnificent viaduct with 18 brick arches was completed, crossing the River Chelmer and through Central Park. The ten million bricks needed to build the viaduct were made locally. During excavations for the brick earth, the fossilised bones of a mammoth and straight-tusked elephant were found and are now on display in the Museum.
