URPoint Details
A village and a hamlet situated on the river Orwell where grain and coal was once carried by large steamboats and would have been moored in Butterman's Bay.
To the west in Woolverstone Park, is the curious ‘Cat House’ dating from 1793, and once used for smuggling.
To the northwest, on the banks of the Orwell, stands the tall brick tower known as ‘Freston Tower’, built around 1549 and is possibly the oldest ‘folly’.
Pin Mill is now a wonderful sailing area and beauty spot on the Orwell Estuary.
The Butt and Oyster has been around since 1553 and definitely has to be seen, especially when the tide is high and the water laps against the walls of this delightful pub.
